In-person returns — how to set it up

How to configure in-person returns in Retino — shipping option, assigning branches.

Written by Ondřej Klusák

In-person returns let your customers bring the goods back to one of your store branches instead of using a carrier. The customer picks a specific branch in the portal, gets its address, opening hours and a photo — and simply drops the package off.

It's a good fit for shops with their own physical store network who want to offer customers a free, instantly available return option.

How to set it up

Setting up in-person returns takes just a few minutes and involves three steps:

1. Create your own branches

If you haven't set up Custom branches yet, create them now. For each branch fill in address, opening hours, contact and ideally a photo — the customer will see all of it in the portal.

A detailed walkthrough is in the Custom branches article.

2. Add an "In-person return" shipping option

In shipping settings add a new option of type In-person return. You can have multiple options — for example one for Prague, one for Brno, each with its own description and conditions.

Follow these steps:

  • in shipping settings, click "add contract"

  • select custom shipping, i.e. "in-person return"

  • click "create"

  • add a shipping option and select the branch. Fill in the details. You can have multiple branches.

3. Assign branches to the option

For each option tick the branches that should be available under it. The customer only sees branches assigned to the chosen option.

The same branch can belong to multiple options — handy if you distinguish for example "Gift returns" and "Standard returns" with the same physical network.

What the customer sees in the portal

The portal flow is:

  1. On the return-method screen the customer sees a I'll return it in person card.

  2. After clicking it, a list of available branches appears with address, opening hours, photo and a map link.

  3. Once a branch is selected, the customer goes straight to summary — no label is generated and no carrier is ordered.
