Retino Tracking allows extending the storage time of packages at drop-off points or carrier branches. The feature is only available for selected carriers where extension is permitted, and can be initiated either manually or automatically using rules in Automation.
Extending the storage period is a function that allows extending the time a shipment is kept at a carrier branch or package locker before being returned to the sender. This feature is particularly useful in cases where:
The customer cannot pick up the shipment within the original storage period
You want to reduce the number of returned shipments
You need to give customers more time to pick up the shipment
Supported Carriers
The storage period extension is currently supported by these carriers:
Česká pošta (packages at a branch)
Zásilkovna/Packeta (drop-off points and Z-Boxes)
Support for other carriers is being added continuously.
How the Extension Works
The process for extending the storage period works as follows:
System detects a shipment in the "Available for Pickup" status - the shipment must be stored at a branch and available for pickup
Checking extension possibility - the system verifies if it's possible to extend the storage period for the given shipment
Performing the extension - if the extension is possible, a "Extend Storage Period" button will appear in the shipment detail (manual extension). If you want to automate this action, follow the instructions below.
Updating data - after successful extension, the date until which the shipment is stored is updated, and extension information is recorded
Limitations and Rules
Certain limitations apply to extending the storage period:
The shipment must be in the "Available for Pickup" status
For some carriers, it's only possible to extend the storage period once
Some shipment types or specific branches may not support extension
Either no previous extension attempt has been made, or one has been made but was unsuccessful
For Česká pošta, the customer's email address is required for extension
For Zásilkovna/Packeta, the extension possibility depends on the type of drop-off point:
Standard drop-off points: the basic storage period is 7 days (5 days in November and December)
Z-Boxes: the basic storage period is only 2 days
More information about storage periods and shipment extension options: How to extend the storage period of a Zásilkovna shipment
For Česká pošta, the extension period may vary depending on the shipment type:
Our system will automatically extend the shipment for the maximum possible period
After extension, the system correctly records the new end date of the storage period
Manual Storage Period Extension
Manual extension of the storage period can be performed from the shipment detail:
If extension is possible, a "Extend Storage Period" button will be available
After clicking the button, the system will submit the extension request
The result of the action will be displayed in the shipment history with information about the new storage date
Automatic Storage Period Extension
Automatic extension of the storage period can be configured using Automation:
In the Automation section, create a new triggering event (We recommend setting "Last N days at the branch" with N=1 as the triggering event)
Add the condition "Can extend storage period" = "Yes"
Select "Extend Storage Period" as the action
It's recommended to create a tag "Extended automatically" and add it to the shipment after the extension is performed.
Troubleshooting
If the storage period extension fails, it may be due to the following reasons:
The shipment is not in the correct status
The carrier has reached the maximum number of extensions
The shipment type or branch does not support extension
Required data (e.g., customer email) is missing
The carrier temporarily does not support extension or has technical issues
Further attempts are not allowed after an unsuccessful extension attempt.
Tracking Extension History
Information about the storage period extension is recorded in the shipment history as a system message "Storage period extended". It includes information about the number of days the period was extended and the new end date of the storage period.
It also records whether the storage period was extended by the customer themselves or by an automatic action from Retino Tracking.
The number of days extended is also recorded for potential future analysis.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the customer extend the storage period themselves?
Yes, for some carriers (e.g., Česká pošta), the customer can extend the storage period through the carrier's services. The system detects and records this extension as "Customer extended storage period".
How many times can the storage period be extended?
This depends on the carrier:
For Česká pošta, the storage period can only be extended once by a fixed number of days. Our system automatically extends the shipment for the maximum possible period.
For Zásilkovna/Packeta, it depends on the type of drop-off point:
Physical drop-off points: the standard storage period is 7 days (5 days in November-December). The shipment can be progressively extended up to 14 days, totaling 21 days outside the season.
Z-Boxes: the basic storage period is only 2 days with a possible extension of 1 day.
More information can be found in the link to the official Zásilkovna website above.
How do I know if a shipment has been extended?
Extension information is visible in the shipment history as a system message, and the shipment will display the status "Extended Storage Period".
Which carriers exactly support storage period extension?
Currently, storage period extension is supported by:
Česká pošta
Zásilkovna/Packeta
What happens if the storage period extension fails?
The system records this as an unsuccessful attempt. Further attempts are not allowed after an unsuccessful attempt, and the shipment remains in the "Available for Pickup" status with the original end date of the storage period.
Can I see the original and extended storage periods of a shipment?
Yes, the tracked shipment displays the "Stored until" date in the detail, showing the current end date of the storage period. In the shipment history, you'll find a record of the extension with information about the number of days the storage period was extended.
